Fort Loudoun State Historic Park Trails
HIGHLIGHTS:
Built in 1756, one of the earliest British fortifications on the western frontier and reconstructed during the Great Depression and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965; Interpretive Center provides detailed information on the reconstructed fort and the area’s history; access to Tellico Lake for paddling and fishing – bass and catfish are primary gamefish; birding opportunities for shorebirds, osprey and bald eagles; five miles of trails weave through the woodlands, grassy fields and along the lake’s shore; the shoreline trail offers impressive vistas of the highest peaks along the Smokies and the Cherokee National Forest plus a scenic overlook from the Ridgetop Trail; paddlers can rent kayaks and SUP (paddles and life jackets provided); personal paddle-craft are welcome
