Legacy Parks works to create great places to get out and play – parks, trails, greenways, waterways – and to help conserve our natural resources for generations to come.
To date, Legacy Parks has raised over six million dollars for parks and added over 600 acres of parkland in Knox County alone.
You can help create more great trails and parks by becoming a Friend of Legacy Parks today!
Legacy Parks Projects
Collier Preserve – A 12-acre natural area in the heart of Powell is being transformed into a community park along scenic Beaver Creek and adjacent to the Powell Library, offering the opportunity to observe wildlife in a stunning natural setting.
Sharp’s Ridge Trails – A 42-acre parcel donated to Legacy Parks by the Dick family will serve as an expansion to Sharp’s Ridge Veterans Memorial Park and will include the region’s first all-access downhill mountain biking trail, a children’s adventure playground, and a new connection to the neighborhoods on the north side of the ridge.
South Knoxville Rail-with-Trail – Legacy Parks is creating a three-mile, virtually flat rail-with-trail alongside the G & O Railway from the edge of Chapman Highway to Ijams Meads Quarry. The rail-with-trail will provide an exceptional recreational and commuter connection for south Knoxville businesses, neighborhoods and destinations.
Head of the Tennessee Initiative – Legacy Parks is collaborating with TVA, TWRA, Tennessee State Parks, and local communities to help promote the health of and access to our waterways by obtaining land and easements to establish new launch areas, preserve shorelines and conserve farmland and open space.
